64 million euros already allocated from the EU growth plan, Perr: Albania has shown a high level of responsibility

Albania is awaiting its first assessment under the European Union’s Economic Growth Plan, while all necessary legal documents have been signed and approved.

The Director of Cooperation at the EU delegation in Tirana, Dr. Hubert Perr, stated in an interview on Albanian public television that so far, 7 percent of the growth plan has been pre-financed, which means that Albania has already been allocated 64 million euros.

“30 million euros have already been distributed in Albania, so I think it is good news for the advance payment. We are currently evaluating these reforms, and let me not take any position on an ongoing process, but certainly, what we have seen so far from Albania is that it has shown a high level of responsibility and has embraced the Reform and Growth Mechanism,” he emphasized.

For this reason, according to Perr, “we also expect that Albania has done its homework and has reported diligently on the reforms that need to be done and have been done.”

“I think Albania will perform well in its first assessment,” said the EU official in Albania.

The allocation of 922 million euros that the EU is giving to Albania over three years addresses, according to Dr. Perr, the attraction of large investors in the region as part of a market with over 300 million consumers.

“No major investor from Europe or elsewhere will come here to say that I will enter this market of 2.4 million inhabitants. No! It is about 300 plus million people that Europe can offer, and I think that is the beauty of this favorable situation for everyone, which we can offer now and can offer in the years ahead before Albania joins the European Union,” added Dr. Perr.

In the current assessment of the European Union, the six countries of the region have an economic development of only about 35 percent of the EU member states, which is planned to change quickly and transformatively. (May 5)
