Agricultural organizations support the pan-European action to preserve the common agricultural policy

Ljubljana – Slovenian agricultural organizations have joined a pan-European awareness campaign on the importance of preserving the EU’s common agricultural policy with a special memorandum. The memorandum was handed over today to the head of the European Commission’s representation in Slovenia Jerneja Jug Jerše by the president of the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia (KGZS) Jože Podgoršek.

At a time when Europe is facing numerous challenges ranging from geopolitical instability and economic uncertainty to the consequences of climate change, representatives of agricultural organizations emphasized that food security is crucial for the strategic autonomy of the EU. The foundation of food security is a strong, common, and adequately funded agricultural policy, KGZS communicated after the memorandum was handed over.

The purpose of the campaign was also to highlight the agricultural sector’s concern about the idea of restructuring agricultural funding at the EU level into a single fund, which could jeopardize the future of the common agricultural policy. “Without a clear and guaranteed budget line to support European agriculture, the European agricultural policy could collapse like a house of cards,” representatives of agricultural organizations warned in the memorandum.

The campaign is timed to coincide with today’s annual conference on the EU budget in Brussels, where among other things, planned changes in the upcoming multiannual budget of the union for 2028-2034 were discussed, while with the support of the European agricultural organization Copa-Cogeca, it took place across all twenty-seven member states.
