Budget PAC: the French Minister of Agriculture regrets the Commission’s proposal

Paris – “The initial proposal from the Commission for the future of the Union’s budget and that of the Common Agricultural Policy turns its back on the ambitious vision that I have always defended, personally and with my political family, for the place of agriculture in the destiny of France and in the European project,” writes the French minister on her X account.

Referring to the efforts imposed by climate change to “secure food production,” Annie Genevard emphasizes the “new agricultural geopolitics” in a “world shaken by armed and trade conflicts.”

“I denounce the risks facing the most advanced common policy in Europe at a time when it has perhaps never been more imperative to unite to face threats. Europe’s food sovereignty deserves better,” she says, adding that “negotiations are opening for many months.”

The European Commission presented its budget proposal for 2028-2034 on Wednesday, set at 2 trillion euros, with additional resources for competitiveness and defense. (July 18, 2025)
