Council of Ministers of Education – Resilience of the Greek school to multiple crises, Skills Workshops and Internationalization of Universities

The Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki, from Brussels and the EU Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Ministers’ Summit, referred to the axes of the discussion with her counterparts, focusing on the resilience of the Greek school in the face of multiple crises, as well as the Skills Laboratory.

“At the EU Education Ministers’ Summit, we will discuss two key pillars: the resilience of the Greek school, of the students and teachers in the face of multiple crises, as well as the development and cultivation of skills. I will refer to the Skills Laboratory, to all that children receive through school, the knowledge for environmental education, the STEM skills component, all that they learn about inclusivity, empathy. Very basic skills for them to be able to collaborate, to learn how to learn, and to develop their critical thinking.”

Ms. Zacharaki, arriving at the EU Education Ministers’ Summit, spoke about the digital equipment that has reached public schools, as well as the further development of skills in schools. “At the Summit, I will refer to all that we have done to adapt to crisis management, all that we did for the digital school, all the digital equipment that has gone to public schools.” At the same time, she referred to “the whole psychosocial support for teachers and children with psychologists and social workers, with training that is necessary,” as well as the ways “that children will develop more skills, as well as principles and values within the school.”

The Education Ministers are discussing the European system of quality assurance and recognition in higher education, as well as the role of the recently announced Skills Union in strengthening the European Educational Area. The Minister of Education referred to Greek universities and the aspect of internationalization, which is the third pillar of today’s discussion among the EU Education Ministers.

“At today’s Summit, the issue of internationalization and the outward orientation of universities will be discussed. From Greece’s side, we will present the very good example that we recently announced, the partnership of Greek universities with international universities. This is an effort at internationalization that the Greek university has been attempting for many years with the support of the Ministry of Education.” (12/5/25)
