EC investigates porn sites to assess risks for children

BRUSSELS (ANP) – Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos are also being investigated. The Commission suspects that the websites have violated the Digital Services Act (DSA), the European law for digital services. Protecting young users online is one of the main priorities of that law.
The Commission’s investigation focuses on the “risks to the protection of minors, including those related to the lack of effective age verification measures.” The websites do not take enough measures to ensure the privacy, safety, and security of minors, the Commission states.
“Children should not have access to pornographic material,” said a spokesperson for the Commission. He states that the websites have been invited to cooperate with the investigation. This investigation may involve requesting material, conducting interviews, and inspections at the websites.
If the websites do not cooperate, the Commission may decide to take further enforcement action, although it is still unclear what that entails. If it turns out that the websites are in violation and do not make any changes, they could face a fine of up to 6 percent of their annual revenue.
