EU has adopted four new sanction packages against Russia

BRUSSELS – The European Union has adopted four new packages of sanctions against Russia, including the 17th package of sanctions aimed at Russia’s “secret fleet” of tankers, measures related to chemical weapons, human rights, and hybrid threats, it was announced by the European Commission.

As stated, the new sanctions are designed to prevent the sale of Russian oil to third countries using Western insurance services, provided that the price does not exceed 60 US dollars per barrel. The four new packages of measures will target more than 130 entities and individuals. As part of the 17th package, the EU will add 75 new entities to the list, including the large Russian oil company Surgutneftegaz, a ship insurance company, and four fleet management firms operating in the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Hong Kong.

Another 189 vessels have been added to the list, of which 183 are oil tankers, bringing the total number of vessels to 324. The package also tightens measures around the sale of dual-use goods and lists entities in China, Belarus, and Israel that provide support to the Russian military-industrial complex. (May 20)
