Eurobarometer: For Slovenians, climate change is a serious threat

Brussels – Climate change is seen as a serious problem by 85 percent of Europeans, while in Slovenia, 89 percent of respondents share this opinion, according to the latest Eurobarometer public opinion survey. A large majority of respondents believe that the union must take action, including increasing the use of renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency.

Most, 61 percent of respondents, placed armed conflicts at the top of the list of the most pressing current threats, with 60 percent in Slovenia. Poverty, hunger, and lack of drinking water are seen as threats by 50 percent of Europeans, while in Slovenia, this figure is 49 percent. Climate change is viewed as the greatest threat by 47 percent of respondents, with 46 percent in Slovenia sharing this view.

In the last six months, 59 percent of Europeans responded that they have also taken action in the fight against climate change. In Slovenia, this percentage was 74 percent.

Residents believe that national governments have the greatest power in this regard. Slovenia, with 66 percent support for this statement, is ten percentage points lower than the EU average, while 52 percent of respondents in Slovenia believe that the EU plays a decisive role (the EU average is 59 percent). However, the feeling of exposure to risks associated with climate change is quite close to the European average, which stands at 38 percent. In Slovenia, 39 percent of respondents share this opinion.
