Extended protection for Ukrainians in the EU
Brussels – Ukrainian refugees in the EU will receive extended protection until at least March 2027.
The decision was made by the justice and interior ministers of the EU countries last week at the proposal of the European Commission.
“The EU continues to show its solidarity with the Ukrainian people. We will continue to provide protection to millions of Ukrainian refugees for another year,” says Tomasz Siemoniak, minister from this spring’s presidency country Poland, in a press release.
The EU opened its temporary protection immediately after the renewed Russian invasion in February 2022.
