Gaza: MSF urges the EU to increase pressure on Israel
Brussels – Doctors Without Borders has called, in an open letter to the leaders of member countries and heads of EU institutions, for them to pressure Israel to open access to vital humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.
The issue is to be on the agenda next Monday at a ministerial meeting of the Twenty-Seven.
According to this letter, the ongoing blockade “is not a legitimate security measure, it is a war crime.”
Medical evacuations also need to be strengthened, according to the humanitarian organization, which estimates that “around 13,000 people, including more than 4,500 children, still urgently need it.”
“The European Union and many of its leaders have recently chosen to reprimand Israel, but these words ring hollow, as they are not taking the concrete measures necessary to end the massacre,” the letter states.
MSF criticizes the fact that European countries (not named) “continue hypocritically to supply Israel with weapons that kill, burn, or permanently disable the people who arrive in our hospitals. This must stop.” (June 16, 2025)
