Gonzato: Independent justice institutions, a key role in Albania’s negotiation process

The Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, visited the High Council of the Prosecution where he met with the chairwoman Mirela Bogdani and the members of the HCP with whom he discussed the important role of the justice bodies in Albania’s European journey.
The Ambassador assessed that at this critical stage of negotiations with the EU, the independent justice institutions have a key role to play.
He reaffirmed the EU’s support, appreciated the progress of the Council, and encouraged ongoing efforts to ensure the efficiency and accountability of the prosecution offices.
“We commend the increased dialogue between the independent justice institutions, including the ILD, as this brings coherent and coordinated responses to common challenges,” said the ambassador.
Gonzato also expressed confidence that these institutions should actively contribute and be involved in any discussion regarding legal changes affecting the judicial system.
Albania has so far opened negotiations on 24 chapters in just 8 months, with only 11 more to be opened.
The Albanian government aims for rapid progress with the objective of closing negotiations in 2027. (June 27)
