K. Kalas: Russia has ‘no chance’ if NATO countries remain united

Russia is a “threat” to global security, but “has no chance if NATO member countries remain united,” said EU foreign policy chief Kaia Kallas today.

“During the Cold War, the US and its allies largely outperformed the Soviet Union (…) Today, against NATO and the EU, Russia has no chance. However, we must remain united,” she noted from the European Parliament in Strasbourg a few days before the Atlantic Alliance summit in The Hague.

NATO has 32 member countries, 23 of which are also EU members.

The statements of US President Donald Trump regarding Russia will be carefully examined at the summit on June 24 and 25 in the Netherlands.

After the G7 summit in Canada, which was marked by the hasty departure of the occupant of the White House, the major industrial democracies did not issue a joint statement condemning the “Russian attack” on Ukraine, unlike previous years when Joe Biden was president of the US.

According to Kaia Kallas, it is essential for NATO members to show collectively that they are on the same page.

“Russia already poses an immediate threat to the European Union,” she noted.

“Those who share borders with Russia have always felt its challenges more acutely. Those of us who suffered from Soviet imperialism feel this more intensely,” emphasized the former Prime Minister of Estonia, the Baltic country that borders Russia.

“However, the threat of Russia to transatlantic security is a problem for all of us,” she concluded. (18/06/25)
