Kolíková: The halt of EU funds may come, the Slovak prime minister attacks the foundations of democracy

Bratislava – According to opposition MP of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic and former Minister of Justice Mária Kolíková (SaS), the suspension of EU funds for Slovakia could indeed happen. At a press conference on Tuesday, she warned that the European Union must be assured that its financial interests are protected and added that the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico (Smer-SD), is attacking the foundations of democracy that the citizens fought for in the streets, TASR reports.

“Unfortunately, we must state that after the National Criminal Agency and the Office of the Special Prosecutor were dismantled, there are no new mechanisms in place to ensure that any frauds that may be related to the financial interests of the European Union will be subsequently and adequately prosecuted,” Kolíková believes.

MP Juraj Krúpa (SaS) explained that after the completion of the inspection by the second delegation of the European Parliament (EP), the MEPs will prepare either one joint or two separate reports to be submitted to the European Commission. According to him, it could also start with an inspection. He pointed out that 80 to 90 percent of public investments in Slovakia come from EU funds. (June 3)
