Member of the European Parliament Zdechovský: We found no discrepancies in EU funds in only three districts of Slovakia

Bratislava – The European Commission, the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) have already received information about 330 possible abuses of EU funds in Slovakia. Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský stated this on social media on Thursday, who recently led a monitoring mission of the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control in Slovakia, TASR reports.

Zdechovský specified that the monitoring mission he led found no irregularities in the use of EU funds in only three districts of Slovakia.

“The results are shocking. Out of 79 Slovak districts, we found suspicions in 76 of them,” Zdechovský stated. Members of the European Parliament had more than 2000 reports, but according to the MEP, materials were only secured in the aforementioned 330 cases.

The highest number of irregularities was found by the EU mission in western Slovakia, as well as around the cities of Žilina, Prešov, and Košice.

“We will continue to work on other cases,” Zdechovský said. (June 26)
