Mickoski: The EU remains our goal, but you need to learn to win in Washington, Brussels, Berlin, Paris

Skopje – The EU was, is, and will remain our goal, but unfortunately, we are the only country in Europe that does not have challenges based on achievements or other types of criteria that apply to other countries that have become or are in the process of becoming member states, said Prime Minister Kristian Mickoski today at the “Macedonia 2025” Summit.

For us, he noted, those criteria are of a completely different nature.

– Part of those concessions made in the past by many politicians are the result of some processes in which they themselves were involved, so they were pushed to the wall and had nowhere to go, part of carelessness and gullibility, and part of national embarrassment and neglecting both the sacrifice made in the past and having no opportunity to have a vision for the future, and now this Government has to live with all that and fight, part of that space that someone previously occupied, to reclaim it. It is difficult, it is not easy, but we will fight, emphasized Mickoski.

In that struggle, he added, the commitment is absolute.

– Our strategy was to occupy the ground and present our arguments. That is the democratic tool we have at our disposal, we have no other. We are one of the smallest nations and states in Europe and that is the only way. This means that we need to be two or three times better than everyone else if you want to sound logical and for others to understand you, and you need to learn to win both in Washington and in Brussels and in Berlin and in Paris and in Rome,… if you want to send a different message than the one that has been heard for years, the Prime Minister emphasized. (May 12, 2025)
