Mr. Tzitzikostas: The European budget for infrastructure and transport is doubling

After the decision of the College of Commissioners regarding the new EU budget for the period 2028 – 2034, the Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, made the following statement:

“The European Commission’s proposal to double the budget for infrastructure and transport, from €25.6 billion to €51.7 billion, and to tenfold the budget for military mobility, from €1.7 billion to €17 billion, is not just numbers. It is a strong political decision that confirms that the European Union invests where it really matters: in the daily lives of citizens, in cohesion, in competitiveness, and in security. Because without modern infrastructure, without smart transport and flexible military movements, without dynamic tourism and competitive shipping, there can be no strong single market, effective defense, and competitive entrepreneurship. The new budget for infrastructure and transport is therefore a great European success, for which we have worked hard over the past period. And above all, it is a success for all European citizens and businesses. Because this investment means better infrastructure and transport networks, safer and faster mobility, a strong economy, more job and development opportunities, lower costs, and stability for investments.

It is also very important that for the first time there is a separate reference in the budget for tourism, as a key priority of the European Union. Equally important is the fact that our country secures overall more resources from the new European Budget. And this in practice means more investments, more projects, more opportunities for everyone, in every corner of our homeland. It is a confirmation of the developmental dynamics and the upgraded role of Greece at the core of the European Union. Europe is now moving differently. With a better plan, a more flexible budget, simpler procedures, and greater speed. Because our goal must be to make the lives and daily lives of citizens better. This is what we strive to achieve with our work every day. And this budget is an important tool to succeed.” (16/7/25)
