News in the proposal of the new EU budget for agriculture in Slovenia is still being examined

Ljubljana – The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Mateja Čalušić believes that the recent proposal for the future long-term EU budget presented in Brussels needs to be thoroughly examined. “At this moment, it is important that in the further negotiations, the envelope for Slovenia within the national and regional programs, of which agriculture is also a part, will be a significant priority for the government. I will strive to ensure that all financial opportunities for agriculture and the food sector are utilized in the preparation of these plans, even outside the allocated funds for agriculture,” she announced.

The proposal for the future long-term EU budget, presented by the European Commission last week, introduces numerous innovations in the agricultural sector. According to the changes in the proposal, “a simple comparison between the amount of funds for the common agricultural policy for the current period and the new allocation is not possible,” they believe at the ministry.

Some stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including the Chamber of Agriculture and Forestry of Slovenia (KGZS), are critical of the proposed budget. The KGZS believes that it will lead to the dismantling of the common agricultural policy. (July 22)
