On the Easter truce: we must see that aggression has really ceased

The European Commission stated on Saturday that Russia is the aggressor and therefore it will assess the results of the Easter truce it announced when it is convinced that the aggression has truly stopped.
The EC emphasized in its statement that Russia could end the war at any moment if it really wanted to.
“Russia has experience in being an aggressor, so we must first see that the aggression has truly ceased and that clear actions have been taken for a lasting ceasefire,” it conveyed. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the order for the ceasefire has already been communicated to all commanders of the units fighting in Ukraine.
The leader of Russia, Vladimir Putin, announced on Saturday that at 6 PM (5 PM in Poland), an Easter truce will come into effect in the war with Ukraine. The suspension of hostilities for humanitarian reasons is set to last until midnight (11 PM in Poland) from Sunday to Monday.
The head of the Ukrainian government’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalенко, reported that Russian forces continue to attack Ukrainian positions despite the announcement of the ceasefire. (04.19.2025)
