My grandfather loved John F. Kennedy. In the young president, he saw a reflection of himself. They had both been in combat in the war in the Pacific and wanted peace in the world and at home. Each man had small children and looked to leave them a better world. Kennedy represented not just a new president, but what he and his generation wanted, a world "where the strong are just, the weak secure, and the peace preserved."
