R. Chovanec: Slovakia welcomes Ukraine’s ambition to join the EU, the accession process must be transparent

Bratislava – State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Rastislav Chovanec will participate in an informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the EU member states in Lviv on Friday, May 9, with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. On this occasion, Chovanec stated that Slovakia welcomes Ukraine’s ambition to join the EU, TASR reports.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified that discussions in Lviv will focus on the role of the Union in the peace process in the event of a conflict in Ukraine. In this context, Chovanec reminded that the Slovak Republic supports all peace initiatives aimed at ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible through diplomacy. He emphasized that this conflict has no military solution, therefore the government of Slovakia continues to maintain its position and will not send its soldiers to Ukraine, nor any weapons from the stocks of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic.

“Slovakia welcomes Ukraine’s ambition to join the European Union, but the accession process must remain transparent, fair, and apply the same conditions for all, including with regard to other candidate countries, especially in the Western Balkans,” Chovanec stated. (May 8)
