Slovenia for the prompt establishment of a European satellite system

Luxembourg – The Slovenian Minister for Digital Transformation Ksenija Klampfer highlighted the need for the swift establishment of a European satellite system at the EU ministers’ meeting responsible for telecommunications.

As stated by the Slovenian Ministry for Digital Transformation, such a system would enable secure communication channels in the event of threats and internet connectivity in areas where building broadband internet is too expensive or nearly impossible.

According to the minister, Europe would ensure technological sovereignty with its own satellite system.

Klampfer also attended an event in Luxembourg for representatives of the MED9 group of European Mediterranean countries, which Slovenia currently chairs.

The event was dedicated to the exchange of best practices and discussions on the use of artificial intelligence and new technologies in addressing common challenges in the region. Slovenia proposed a joint mapping of artificial intelligence projects in the public sector of MED9 countries, particularly in the areas of climate change, migration, food security, and cybersecurity.

The initiative was unanimously supported by all MED9 member states, which, in addition to Slovenia, include Cyprus, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Spain. The high representative of the European Commission also responded positively to it. (June 6)
