Strengthening democratic institutions in Albania, EU supports the NGO group for election monitoring

The elections of 2025 are of key importance, as they take place shortly after Albania started negotiations for group-chapter 1, which focuses on the rule of law and democratic processes.
In this context, the EU has supported the establishment of the NGO Group for Election Monitoring, promoting inclusive, transparent, and reliable elections.
According to the EU delegation in Tirana, this initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and to encourage inclusive, transparent, and reliable electoral processes in Albania.
“Civil society is essential for building trust, by monitoring, fostering dialogue, and mobilizing citizens, especially first-time voters and marginalized groups,” said the EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, at this event.
“It is encouraging to see over 200 activists already engaged. A strong and active civil society is vital for Albania’s EU membership process, to ensure that this process is inclusive and that reforms are sustainable,” emphasized Gonzato.
“We will continue to support Albanian civil society organizations that uphold democratic values and human rights,” said the EU ambassador in Albania, Silvio Gonzato. (April 28)
