The Delegation of the National Council of the Slovak Republic in Warsaw emphasized the importance of nuclear energy for the EU

Warsaw – The Slovak Republic considers emission-free energy as an essential part of the security of the European Union (EU), with nuclear energy remaining a key pillar of its strategy. This was stated by MP Branislav Škripek (KDH) in a speech on behalf of the delegation of the National Council of the Slovak Republic at a meeting of representatives of the environment committees of the parliaments of EU member states on Monday. This was reported by the Warsaw correspondent of TASR.
According to Škripek’s statement to TASR, the position of the Slovak delegation was different from that of some other EU countries, particularly regarding the use of nuclear energy. With a 60 percent share of electricity generated in nuclear power plants, Slovakia ranks among the leading positions in the EU in this regard. This share will further increase after the launch of the fourth block of the Mochovce power plant.
Škripek emphasized that Slovakia supports the recognition of nuclear energy as a strategic source within the Union’s energy policy.
According to him, Slovakia is also simultaneously developing renewable energy sources with the aim of achieving a secure and balanced energy mix. By 2030, it plans to increase their share to a quarter, focusing particularly on the use of geothermal, wind, and solar energy, as well as biomass.
Škripek also pointed to the need for modernization of energy infrastructure, investment in research and development, and the building of hydrogen infrastructure and battery storage. He described the transition to emission-free energy as a matter not only of climate protection but also of geopolitical stability and self-sufficiency. According to him, Slovakia is ready to actively participate in joint solutions in the field of sustainable energy.
The meeting of delegations from the national parliaments of EU states took place on the occasion of Poland’s rotating presidency in the EU Council and was opened by the Chairwoman of the Polish Senate, Malgorzata Kidawa-Blońska. The Slovak delegation consisted of Škripek and Kristína Bobáková from the office of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. (April 14)
