The EU “fully engaged” in negotiations with Trump after judicial twists

Brussels – Finding a solution on customs duties “remains an absolute priority for the EU. We remain in constant contact” with the United States, emphasized European Commissioner for Trade, Maros Sefcovic, who spoke by phone on Thursday with U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Howard Lutnick.
According to a European source, new discussions could take place on Tuesday or Wednesday, on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting in Paris of the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, which mainly includes Western countries).
On Wednesday, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) had determined that Mr. Trump had overstepped his authority by imposing non-targeted tariffs, as this is a prerogative of Congress.
Seized by small businesses and a coalition of U.S. states, the judges gave his government ten days to reverse its decision. But, less than 24 hours later, an appeals court suspended the lower court’s decision while it deliberates on the merits. The European executive did not comment on these judicial developments.
