The European Union supported the initiative on women and security: “Naturally, completely!” presented in Sarajevo

Sarajevo, (Fena) – The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Sarajevo (CIS UNSA) presented the initiative “Women and Security? Naturally, Totally!” funded by the European Union. As part of the Initiative, a lecture and discussion with participants was held by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to BiH, Julian Reilly.

The event is part of a series of six discussions with ambassadors, students, and media dedicated to UN Resolution 1325 “Women, Peace, and Security” and democratic oversight of the security sector. The activities are designed for ambassadors to share the experiences of the countries they represent, thus enabling the exchange of experiences and comparison with the situation in BiH.

The initiative “Women and Security? Naturally, Totally!” is funded by the European Union and implemented by the Center for Security Studies from Sarajevo, the Association “Network of Policewomen” (Sarajevo, BiH), and the Center for European Security Studies (Groningen, Netherlands).

This extensive initiative aims to enhance security through better understanding and implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and to ensure greater gender-sensitive oversight of the security sector in BiH.

The Secretary-General of the Center for Security Studies, Benjamin Plevljak, stated that the initiative “Women and Security? Naturally, Totally!” will last for 36 months with the aim of implementing UN Resolution 1325 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the Association “Network of Policewomen,” Kristina Jozić, notes that the goal of the event is to highlight the need for strong implementation of Resolution 1325. Women, Peace, and Security.

– This is a very important resolution that emphasizes the need for greater participation of women in peacebuilding processes and maintaining a safe environment. I usually say that this resolution quite unapologetically states that it is impossible to maintain peace and security without equal participation of women in all phases of these processes – concluded Jozić.
