The President of Slovakia in the report on the state of the republic urged the government not to distance itself from partners in the EU and NATO

Bratislava – President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini called on the government on Wednesday not to distance itself from EU partners and NATO allies in its efforts to conduct foreign policy in all four corners of the world. He stated this during his speech in the National Council of the Slovak Republic in a report on the state of the republic, TASR reports.

The president emphasized that the West is the most important corner of the world for Slovak interests and must not disappear from our foreign policy. He pointed out the number of investments we have from the EU.

Pellegrini referred to the declaration of the three highest constitutional officials regarding Slovak foreign policy. In it, they stated that Slovakia promotes a sovereign foreign policy open to all four corners of the world, which Pellegrini supports.

“But today I must publicly remind from this place that one of the four corners of the world is still the West, and it must not disappear from our foreign policy,” the head of state declared. According to him, the West is not just one of the four corners of the world, but also the most important one for Slovak interests.

He reminded that 89 percent of all investments come to Slovakia from the European Union and 78 percent of all Slovak exports go to the member states of the Union.

“The European Union is our economic, foreign policy, value-based, and increasingly also security space, which we must not abandon under any circumstances,” Pellegrini emphasized. According to the president, the three constitutional officials committed to supporting our “undeniable” membership in the EU and NATO and also to supporting the sovereign positions of the Slovak Republic in foreign policy “including issues important for improving mutual relations between the member states of the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance.” (May 28)
