Three Slovenian municipal communities halted the path to climate neutrality

Velenje – The Slovenian municipalities of Velenje, Kranj, and Ljubljana have developed innovative solutions for the transition to climate-neutral and smart cities as part of the US-SCALE project. The project, supported by the European Net Zero Cities program, represented an important step towards the sustainable transformation of urban environments with a clear goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2030.
As reported by the municipality of Velenje, the UP-SCALE project and the collaboration between Velenje, Kranj, and Ljubljana represent a model of good practice and an effective model for how cities can successfully take a leading role in the transition to a green future.
At the final conference of the project in Velenje, key solutions and achievements were presented, such as smart transport systems for traffic optimization, the digital tool Eva for supporting energy renovation, and data-supported decision-making for financing sustainable projects. As part of the project, a climate-energy office was established in Velenje, where advisors provide free consultations to citizens regarding measures to reduce consumption in the areas of energy, mobility, waste, and the green economy.
The participating municipalities in the project paid special attention to comprehensive support and information points that provide concrete assistance and advice to citizens and businesses on the path to energy efficiency.
During the discussion, participants emphasized that the all-in-one concepts are not just information points, but active agents of change that can effectively influence changes in citizen behavior. (April 27)
