Von der Leyen and Kallas called for restraint in the Middle East

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas called on Friday for restraint and an end to escalation in the Middle East. They declared their readiness to support “any diplomatic efforts.”
Von der Leyen acknowledged that the reports coming from the Middle East are deeply concerning.
“Europe calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, to immediately cease escalation, and to refrain from retaliatory actions,” emphasized the head of the Commission in a social media post.
As she pointed out, “a diplomatic solution is now more urgent than ever, for the sake of regional stability and global security.”
“Diplomacy remains the best way forward, and I am ready to support any diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation,” echoed the head of EU diplomacy.
Israel launched attacks on Iran early Friday morning, declaring that their targets are nuclear and military facilities. As a result of this operation, high-ranking Iranian commanders and at least six nuclear energy scientists are likely to have been killed. (06.13.2025)
