Washington has not exhausted “all options” to pressure Moscow (Kallas to AFP)

Brussels – The United States “has tools in its hands to truly put pressure on Russia. Why are they not using them to end this war?” Kaja Kallas questioned in an interview with AFP on Tuesday.
The head of European diplomacy criticized Moscow for “not having respected the ceasefire.” “It is clear that Russia is playing games, trying to buy time and does not really want peace,” she stated.
American President Donald Trump threatened last week to end ongoing U.S. efforts to stop the war in Ukraine if there were no quick and tangible progress from Moscow and Kiev.
The occupant of the White House then assured that he hoped for an agreement “this week” between the two countries.
For Kaja Kallas, Russia’s announcement of a 30-hour ceasefire over the weekend was actually just a ruse to prevent the American president from “losing patience” with the Kremlin.
According to her, Kiev and its European supporters hoped that Washington would adopt a tougher stance towards Moscow. (April 22, 2025)
