“We have to insist on rules” for AI regulation: EESC President Oliver Röpke sits down with the enr

Speaking to the European Newsroom (enr), Röpke focused on the actors behind disinformation and what was needed to fight against the tide of misinformation. He outlined the critical need for regulatory frameworks like the Digital Services Act (DSA) and AI Act to ensure both the protection of democratic values and the ethical use of technology.
“I think this is the European way to welcome and to introduce of course all new technologies, but at the same time to insist that rules, respect for ethical rules and for democratic values must be fully ensured”, he insisted.
The EESC is an advisory committee to the Commission, Council and Parliament. Its 329 members represent employers, workers and civil society organisations. Röpke, who is Austrian, has led the EESC since April 2023.
Röpke visited the enr offices in the Residence Palace in Brussels and sat down for a “Question Corner” video interview with the enr’s Ivonne Marschall and Tanjug’s Ivan Ilic.
Following the interview, the material was shared with all enr agencies, allowing them to publish news pieces on their respective wires. The enr also produced a Key Story based on the interview:
