ZMOS: European projects at the local and regional level improve the quality of life of Slovaks

Bratislava – It is at the local and regional level that specific European initiatives and projects are being implemented to improve the quality of life for people. On the day of the 21st anniversary of Slovakia’s accession to the EU, Jozef Božík, the chairman of the Association of Towns and Communities of Slovakia (ZMOS), reminded us of this on Thursday. According to him, this day is also a symbol of respect for workers, TASR reports.

Slovakia’s accession to the EU has brought new opportunities for citizens, as well as for towns and communities, from the free movement of people, goods, services, and capital, to a fundamental impulse for development and modernization.

“Towns, communities, and their residents play an irreplaceable role in this project. It is at the local and regional level that specific European initiatives and projects are being implemented to improve the quality of life for people. Therefore, ZMOS respectfully commemorates the contribution and commitment of towns and communities in building a modern and prosperous society,” Božík stated in a statement for TASR.

May 1st is also Labor Day, which, according to the head of ZMOS, symbolically honors work as part of the value hierarchy and all those who perform it every day. On the eve of Labor Day, maypoles were erected and cultural events took place in many towns and communities across Slovakia.

“These traditions, which are part of our cultural heritage, have a strong community dimension. The May Day celebrations continue today across Slovakia. Our towns and communities commemorate this holiday by organizing events that emphasize the importance of work, love, and community as part of everyday life,” Božík concluded. (May 1)

“Towns, communities, and their residents play an irreplaceable role in this project. It is at the local and regional level that specific European initiatives and projects are being implemented to improve the quality of life for people.” Jozef Božík
