Mickoski: Europe has the chance to correct a historical injustice

Skopje – The working version of the report by the rapporteur Thomas Weiss is as it is, important, significant, because, for the first time, a special Macedonian identity is mentioned, said Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski in response to a journalist’s question. He assessed that Europe has a chance to correct a historical injustice and that we have a Macedonian identity and a special Macedonian language, but European parliamentarians have different opinions.
– Unfortunately, from some of his colleagues, MPs who come from, unfortunately, our sister party GERB, propose that the word “current” should stand before the Macedonian identity. For us, this is not a surprise, because from the very beginning of this adventure of accepting the previous government, Bujar Osmani and Dimitar Kovachevski, we talked about this, that behind all this lies exactly this, the creation of an artificial nation, a current Macedonian nation, said Mitskoski.
He noted that he had intensive conversations with several influential people both in the EP and in Brussels. If that happens, Mitskoski believes, it will be confirmed that it is not about a few hundred citizens who are considered part of the Bulgarian community in Macedonia, but that it is an attempt to create a new, artificial, current Macedonian nation that rests on the roots of the Bulgarian nation.
– I will not accept that and I will reject it and I will never accept it, because it has nothing to do with European or any values. But this once again shows with what ignorance and adventure or intention Bujar Osmani or Dimitar Kovachevski entered, said the Prime Minister and shifted the blame for this situation to his predecessor Kovachevski and former minister Bujar Osmani who accepted the “French proposal”.
– I am now waiting for Europe to respond. Europe now has a chance, there is no unanimity now, Europe has a chance to correct a historical injustice inflicted by the acceptance of Bujar Osmani and Dimitar Kovachevski of what was put on the table, said the Prime Minister.
According to him, the truth is that official Sofia has never repackaged itself and has remained a blind hostage to the policies of “Zhivkovism”, creating a new Macedonian nation that rests on the foundations of the Bulgarian nation. (June 2, 2025)
