Proposal CAP “does not align with Belgian position”, says minister

The Commission provides for the following multiannual budget of 300 billion in income support, or 80 percent of the current budget for the common agricultural policy. Member states can choose to inject additional money into agriculture through their “national and regional partnership plans,” which would have a total budget of 865 billion euros.

According to Member of Parliament Anne Pirson (Les Engagés), the proposal risks favoring industrial agriculture, “at the expense of our family farming.”

Minister Clarinval shares that concern. In addition to the reduction of the amount, he criticizes the merging of the agricultural budget with other European funds, the risk of transfers between envelopes, and the definition of climate objectives without sufficient consultation.

“I will convey this message to my colleagues from Finance and Budget,” who represent Belgium in the negotiations that must be completed in 2027. “It is absolutely necessary that we act now,” said Clarinval.
