Slovenia expects concrete changes in the field of the internal market near Brussels

Brussels – Member states welcomed the new horizontal strategy for the single market, which the European Commission published on Wednesday, during Thursday’s meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council. The State Secretary at the Slovenian Ministry of Economic Affairs Dejan Židan was interested in what specific changes the economy can expect by the end of the year.

As stated by the Slovenian Ministry of Economic Affairs, EU members want ambitious, swift, and concrete steps to remove barriers in the internal market and deepen it based on the strategy.

Ministers supported the selection of the 10 most severe barriers in the internal market for businesses, which are defined in the strategy along with planned activities for their removal.

Židan presented to the meeting participants the work of the national group for simplifications and the removal of barriers in the internal market. He stated that the group had conducted its first discussion with representatives of chambers about the most severe barriers in the internal market. The chambers highlighted the recognition of professional qualifications, restrictive and diverse rules for national services, and the temporary posting of workers as the most problematic issues.

“I now expect a response from the European Commission regarding what I can communicate to the economy about the specific changes they can expect by the end of the year based on the adopted strategy,” said Židan.

Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Stephane Sejourne explained in response to Židan’s question that significant relief in doing business is particularly expected for companies with medium market capitalization, emphasizing the reliefs from the perspective of the data protection regulation.
